Gary Simpson
Saturday 2pm - 4pm with the show repeated Thursday's 2pm - 4pm. The fourth Saturday in the month between 12-2pm Roots Rock Reggae. Gary was born and raised in Slough. After leaving school Gary started off as a painter and decoratorGary's musical journey began whilst collecting music in the late 60s. Listening to tracks on the youth club jukebox started his love for Trojan records and after getting a copy of Tighten Up Volume 2, he was hooked . In 1976 a chance meeting with an old school friend led to the beginning of his DJ journey. One of the highlights of his DJ journey was having a long residency at Americas club in Southall where he helped promote many big name acts such as Ronnie Scott, Geno Washington, Eddie Grant, Imagination, Greg Edwards and Robbie Vincent to name just a few. In 1980 after being made redundant from Pinewood studios, where he was the scene decorator on many a movie, he opened a record shop in Slough High street, The Slough record and Tape exchange, selling new and used vinyl/ tape for 3 years, until family life took over in the 90's. His love for all genres of music( Soul, Funk, Jazz, Northern Soul and of course my first love Trojan) and artists has never left and he enjoys finding out and extending his musical knowledge. Having retired to Northern Ireland he is now collecting vinyl again and has found the DJ bug through Rare Groove Radio.
When not playing or listening to music Gary's other interests is football with Chelsea FC being his team. As well as Football Gary likes visiting record fairs and going to live gigs.
